I put out whole peanuts in a tray for the jays each morning.

A fun way to give ducklings their leafy treats
When giving the ducklings their kale treats this morning, instead of ripping it into small pieces and tossing it to them as I usually do, I just held some and let them pull off bits.
Return of the ducklings run
Today I reassembled the fenced run for the latest ducklings. I got a bunch of pictures that will be in today’s ducklings blog post. Here are two clips: playing in the mud, while Betty quacks at them, plus using the paint tray pool.
All ducklings in the pool
The new two-week-old ducklings have quickly become enthused at going in the paint tray pool. This is the morning of their second day with the pool, with all of them in it at once. They won’t all fit for long, but in a couple of weeks they’ll have a larger outdoor pool.
Ducklings with leafy treats
Today I introduced the latest ducklings to leafy treats, which they immediately loved.
Contrasting ducklings and ducks eating
Watch our newest ducklings eating and drinking while peeping, with the older ducks quacking in the background… then cut to the older ducks eating, which is quite the contrast.
Day old ducklings
Listen to the peeping and watch the wobbliness of our new day old ducklings.
Duck slide into pond
Betty and a Rouen wrestling, then Cora uses a rock to slide into the pond. It looks like that’s a frequent route.
Duck treats from the pond deck
The ducks swimming in the pond, enjoying mealworm treats tossed from the pond deck.
New ducks first swim
Since the new ducks didn’t avail themselves of the pond when I opened the pop door yesterday, today I “encouraged” them (I basically shoved them out the door). The three females went first, and Bert showed them around the pond, then the boys joined them.
This video contains five clips from their first swim, from different vantage points around the pond.
